It forms a binary phase in 11.7% silicon, with a melting point at 577degC. Both phases can be described as silicon solid solutions of aluminum and silicon solid solutions of aluminum at room temperature. There is no intermetallic compound. You can add sodium in very small amounts to increase strength and improve the eutectic. Although iron is not a very good choice, it can significantly reduce toughness. However, manganese may be used to mitigate this.

An electrothermal process for making aluminum-silicon alloy is at around 2000°C. Alumina and silicon oxide, which are liquids during the metallurgical processes, are reduced by a carbonaceous agent. The maximum temperature the submerged arcane can achieve is usually about 1350°C to 2200°C.

The ductility of an aluminum-silicon alloy is best when it has a low silicon content (such 0.7). It is also more malleable and can often be used as deformed alloy. But, when it has a higher silicon content (such 7%), it fills the melt better and it's commonly used to create Cast alloy.
When the aluminum-silicon alloys have a silicon content greater than 12.6% (silicon particle content as high as 14.5% or 25%), adding some Ni, Cu, Mg, and other elements to the alloy can increase It's complete mechanical properties.
These can be replaced by cast iron cylinders for a significant weight reduction. You can electrochemically treat the aluminum-silicon cylinder to remove the surface aluminum, retain primary silicon dots embedded within the substrate of the cylinder and improve its wear and scratch resistance.
Due to its low weight and corrosion resistance, an alloy with between 11%-13% silicon content is one of the top piston materials.
