Sn is sandwiched by two Slayers, which have strong covalent ties, whereas a monolayer is kept together with weak van der Waals forces. If the van der Waals weak force is overcome through physical or chemical peeling then each layer will easily break.
SnS2 can be used to make photovoltaic solar panels, FETs and sensors.
Tin disulfide has an acidic sulfuric nature. It can undergo a coordination reaction with concentrated Hydrochloric Acid, but not in dilute Hydrochloric Acid. In addition, it is insoluble when mixed in water or nitric acids. It can be dissolved by ammonium-sulfide.

Tin disulfide has an n-type crystal structure of hexagonal CdI2 with a large bandgap (about 2.35eV). It is a semiconductor with good optical properties, electrical properties, and can be utilized for solar cell materials, anode material of Lithium Chemicalbook sytem sub-cells and other applications.
As tin diulfide is environmentally safe, has a similar bandgap to silicon and has an absorption coefficient of high, it makes a great absorber for solar cells.
